Dr. Sib Akhtar |
Dr. Sib Akhtar's career spans a life time in the turbo machinery and oil and gas industry. He started with GEC, English Electric on the design, testing and troubleshooting of large steam and gas turbines. "For one particular project, I was involved in the design of an 1100 MW steam turbine generator, the world's largest ever built." He left GEC, English Electric with a solid grounding in the design and building of turbo machinery.
This was follow by the University of Bath, Elliott Turbo machinery, Global Engineering Contractors and MW Kellogg, where he specialised in the application of large turbo compressors for oil and gas and LNG, NGL projects for onshore and offshore projects.
"When I left Kellogg, I could see there was a knowledge gap in the industry" Sib recalls. "The application of compressors and turbo machinery in the oil and gas industry was not properly understood. These machines are vitally important for the operation and production for oil and gas in the fields, but because of their complexity in both design and operation, their full potential was not being realised. The knowledge and expertise that I gained from Kellogg, Global and Elliott formed the core of MSE and was a unique combination unavailable elsewhere."
With the formation of MSE, operating companies were at last able to obtain independent advice on the design and selection of turbo machinery which have helped to optimise the process design. Large scale production facilities for oil and gas field and LNG projects are being built with compressor designs that were properly developed and optimised for each application. |
