For a given process duty there are numerous
ways a compressor can be designed; each design will meet the
compression duty but with differing compression efficiencies.
However, there is only one compressor design which has the
highest aerodynamic efficiency and will require the least amount
of compression power.
The optimum compressor design depends upon
aerodynamic factors which are a combination of impeller speed,
its diameter and its shape, as defined by its specific speed
which is independent of the manufacturer.
MSE has developed the
CENTRIF suite
of programs in order to help determine optimum aerodynamic performance of
centrifugal compressors. These programs have been extensively
used and validated against rigorous testing and field data.
MSE provides operating companies with an
independent method of designing and selecting their compression
system directly from the process conditions. This approach
allows the evaluation of a number of alternative concept designs
at the very early project stage. Once an optimum design has been
agreed, quotations and selection from manufacturers can
be obtained.
