LNG is a clean and green fuel and is the choice for an increasing number of industrial applications including power generation. The worldwide demand for LNG is set to grow from the current levels to 250 MTPA over the coming decade.

MSE is at the forefront of this growth and many major operating companies engaged in the development of LNG plants are currently using our expertise in the design, development and application of gas compression systems. We have carried out the optimisation of some of the largest compressors ever designed and built.

Our approach is to analyse the compressor design right at the very beginning of your project when the process conditions are still fluid. Our engineers then work closely with you and your contractor and equipment manufacturers to develop more reliable and efficient machines.

Software Systems

MSE has developed a proprietary software system CENTRIF to optimise the design of large LNG compressors to suit the drivers and identify your potential aerodynamic and machinery problems.

 

Industry Database

We have a comprehensive database of turbo-machinery used in LNG applications including centrifugal compressors, gas and steam turbines and expanders from all the leading manufacturers of the world. This enables us to provide you with unbiased advice on many technical aspects of machinery selection and performance issues from a single source.

Risk Mitigation

We recognise that the design and selection of large refrigeration compressors and drivers is very challenging as they represent the very limit of practical and proven technology. 

Failure to meet design specifications results in rejection of your LNG machinery and a re-design. This usually extends your equipment's delivery dates by 6-12 months, which can be very damaging to your project. We can identify and resolve problems by being involved at the design and build stage, thus avoiding the delay.

Availability & Reliability Analysis

For LNG projects the availability and reliability of gas turbines and compressors are a major contributor to your overall plant performance and availability. During a project, we will closely with you to improve this by analysing and redesigning your compressor configurations. In one previous study our recommendations increased our client's availability of a five MTPA LNG plant by 2.5%.
